Annotate PDF Documents Online

Mark up your files with highlights, sticky notes, and drawings right in your browser.

Make Your Mark

Whether you are a student reviewing lecture slides, an editor proofreading a manuscript, or a designer giving feedback on a mockup, you need a way to leave clear notes on digital documents. Printing everything out to use a physical highlighter is terrible for the environment and highly inefficient. With our tool, you can easily annotate PDF files directly on your screen.

Our annotation suite gives you all the tools you need: a vibrant highlighter to mark important text, a freehand drawing pen for circling errors or sketching ideas, and a text tool to drop comments into the margins. You can draw on PDF files just as easily as you would on a piece of paper, all without paying for expensive subscription software.

Because you might be reviewing confidential business plans or private essays, privacy is our top priority. The annotation engine runs locally in your web browser. This means your document is never uploaded to any remote server. Your intellectual property stays safely on your own hard drive while you mark it up.

How to Add Notes

  1. Upload File: Drag your document into the reader.
  2. Choose a Tool: Select the highlighter, pen, or text box from the toolbar.
  3. Mark it Up: Click and drag over the text to highlight, or freehand draw directly on the pages.
  4. Save Changes: Click download to permanently flatten your annotations into the file so anyone can see them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can other people edit the notes I add?

When you save the file with our tool, the annotations are typically flattened onto the page. This makes them visible to everyone on any device, but much harder for someone else to easily delete or alter.

Does highlighting work on scanned pages?

Yes! If you use the freehand highlighter, you can draw a semi-transparent yellow line over anything—even images of text on a scanned document.
